Lucas Durgin Paliocha was born and raised in Newry, Maine, the home of Sunday River Ski Resort and Grafton Notch State Park. One of Luke’s passions is skiing and he attributes his success to the Maine Adaptive Ski Program where he participated from age six and, presently, at age 32, participates as a volunteer and instructor.
Luke’s artistic talents were recognized from an early age with his creative use of color and ability to draw in perspective at the age of four. He was encouraged and inspired by teachers Jan Baker and Lauren Head at Gould Academy where he won a statewide award for a painting of an antique pick-up truck on a farm and shared the senior art prize with a fellow student. He went on to study art at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston in a dual program with Tufts Univsersity where he pursued his academic classes and received a BFA. His artistic focus involved animation under professors: Lorelei Pepi, Flip Johnson, and Joel Frenzer.
In addition to art and skiing, Luke is absolutely passionate about antique vehicles. Inspired by a collection of toy highway trucks received from his uncle Chip when he was four, he has since collected many old Matchboxes and larger antique toys. He has managed to acquire a couple of life size “toys” from the forties that sit in his front yard including “Led Belly” where he is pictured at age seven with his dog Chocolate Chip. Thus, the motivation for this collection of pencil and ink drawings becomes clear. Because of widespread enthusiasm for and interest in his antique vehicle drawings Luke decided to focus on this aspect of his art for launching his career in the world of art. His drawing of “Lead Belly”, his first for this business, remains his most popular print. Please visit and enjoy the rest of his site.
